Thanksgiving at the SHARE Food Network: 13,000 turkeys to local families in four days

Best Blogger Tips

The folks working in the warehouse call it d-day (the d is for distribution). We call it Turkey-Pa-Looza (we're still working on that name). Whatever else, call it amazing.
Catholic Charities is distributing more than 13,000 turkey Thanksgiving meals. The turkeys, part of the monthly food packages, includes all the fixings and sides of a traditional Thanksgiving meal, sold at half the price of the store.

That's the magic of the SHARE Food Network. It makes healthy meals affordable to everyone year-round. It just happens to be really fun to tell people we're moving 13,000 turkeys.

All of this will happen over the next four days as thousands of volunteers help pack the meals, load up vans and drive and distribute the dinners throughout the region. The SHARE Food Network has a unique model for providing affordable and healthy food to anyone. It sells monthly food packages worth $40-50 for $20 and two hours of volunteer service. The Thanksgiving packages cost a little more, $20 and $39 depending on the selection. Each offers a full complement of sides.

For organizations wanting to give out Thanksgiving Dinners to families in their neighborhood, they can contact SHARE at 301-864-3115 by Monday, November 25 at noon.
